Hi everyone!

I’ve been really interested in the idea of GBA-style demakes of later Pokémon games for quite some time. During my search, I came across PCL.g and Jean Star’s Pokémon Sword & Shield GBA project.

There are multiple versions of this game circulating online, including a standard version and an “Ultimate” version. The standard version exists in both Portuguese and English, while the Ultimate version is only available in Portuguese.

Although the concept is really impressive, these builds suffer from serious compatibility issues. They only run properly on specific emulators with particular settings. I spent time analyzing the ROMs in an attempt to make them work on real hardware (such as flashable reproduction cartridges). Unfortunately, the standard version has a critical bug that causes it to crash before you can even pass the title screen, and I wasn’t able to fix it.

That left the Ultimate version. While it does run, it originally had major game-breaking bugs—most notably crashes when opening the Bag or Party menus. This made it impossible to catch Pokémon, use items, or progress normally.

I’ve now fixed these issues, and the game is fully playable on all emulators I tested (mGBA, VBA-M, and no$gba), as well as on real hardware via repro cartridges and the Analogue Pocket openFPGA.

Since the game was only in Portuguese, I also translated it fully into English for accessibility.

To be clear, I do not claim any credit for the original creation of this ROM. My work was limited to bug fixing and translation to improve compatibility and usability. I also obtained permission from PCL.g to distribute this modified version.

I am sharing a .UPS patch that can be applied to a base Pokémon FireRed ROM so you can play it on your preferred platform.

A lot of translation work has been done in the latest update including text from Stadium, Item sprites, other player character, item description, grammartical corrections, wild spawns, split evolutions, abilities, pokemon dialogues, soft locks & other postgame stuff.
